Why an Air Conditioner is Better than a Swamp Cooler

swamp-cooler-versus-air-conditionerThe summer heat is coming and you may be considering your options for a more pleasant home this year.  In the battle of Swamp Cooler vs. Air Conditioner, we believe there is one clear champion.

The first thing to keep in mind is air quality.

While temperature is a factor, air quality plays a significant role in your overall comfort.  Evaporative coolers (aka Swamp coolers) bring outside air directly into your home, along with dust, dirt, allergens and humidity. They require an ongoing supply of fresh air, and actually function best with a window open, which can be a problem in Denver on high pollution days, or if there are wildfires, which are common in our state.

The second thing to keep in mind is control.

Swamp Coolers only provide a 15-20 degree temperature drop.  Air conditioners allow for precise temperature control, regardless of the outside temperature, and some units offer zone cooling, so you can adjust which areas of your home are cooled the most.

Air conditioners may cost more to install and operate but they are quiet, clean, and keep you far more comfortable.
